This blog was born from my personal journey—a transformation from despair to gratitude, from chains to freedom. For much of my life, I struggled with mental health issues and felt like I didn’t belong. My mother battled addiction, and many in my family were caught in cycles of drugs, drama, or dysfunction. When my mom was sent to prison, my grandparents stepped in to raise me, though I often tried to stay with her after her release a couple years later. I was angry, lost, and hated myself and everything around me.
Then, one day, I made a decision: I was going to love myself and create the life I deserved. I committed to change, spending 15 months working on myself—physically, mentally, and spiritually. I promised to give it a year, trying any suggestions or coping skills I encountered, even when they felt uncomfortable or pointless. Through this, I discovered over 180 coping skills, and I now carry the ones that work for me in my invisible “tool belt.”
Over time, I’ve rebuilt my life. Today, I have a home I’m proud of, and while there are still challenges, I know I can overcome them. I created this blog to share my story in hopes of inspiring others to embrace their own journeys. My goal is to build a community of support—where people feel safe to share their struggles and successes and know they’re not alone.
I chose the lotus as the symbol for my website because it perfectly represents my personal journey of transformation. The lotus flower has a unique ability to grow in the mud, rising from the darkness and murk to bloom into something beautiful and pure. It symbolizes resilience, rebirth, and the power to overcome difficult circumstances—a reflection of my own path.
Like the lotus, I’ve faced challenges, pain, and a history rooted in struggles with mental health, addiction in my family, and feelings of despair. But, just as the lotus emerges from the mud, I’ve risen from those dark places, using coping skills and self-love to heal. My journey from despair to gratitude mirrors the flower's path from the depths to the light.
The lotus reminds us that no matter where we start or how hard the journey, we all have the potential to grow, thrive, and bloom into something beautiful.
